Kiwis Ain't Russian Anywhere

Russian news agencies reported this week that a kiwi had been spotted in a Russian port, about 16,000 kilometres from home ... which is quite a feat for a flightless bird ... and a lot further than I flew (even with assistance) just recently.  Now it appears that it was a case of mistaken identity.

So folks, for future reference, this is a kiwi ...

And this is a Eurasian bittern ...

Now, could someone explain why my Russian readers were so interested in the price of bananas? (yes, these are really the only search keywords used to get here ... twice)

Because bananas are delicious and look awesome when they wear a hat?

A banana pirate, that's what the sims needs :D

The third Russian visitor was referred from a porn site ... I'm trying hard to believe the two things are not related! I'll go with the banana pirate ... though that would mean my sims would be spawned wearing banana pirate boots instead of the other kind.

Yes, they are strange... think poida's got the insect world covered. Tazzie devils are my favourite - they're always in a bad mood, just like sims.

NZ's wildlife is more ordinary - just giant wetas (like crickets but handsized), tuataras (lizards older than dinosaurs) and some cheeky parrots. The rest is imported.
